Hi TomCat; No, they are not disposable, yes they are easy to mess up. See if you can find a heavy duty washer of the kind that is used on 1" or bigger high strength construction bolts. You might have to do some grinding to make it fit the slot. Put the washer in the slot, stick a big screwdriver through the hole and you can lever that bugger out of there without any trouble.
